Pick A Trick

Don't know where they came from but In Flagranti has been in our ears lately. Thanks, Rachel. This is what life in New York is going to be like. I'm already outta here in my mind.

Holy Ghosts Are In Command

Our friends Chuck and Brandon make up the noisy lo-fi band Crocodiles. A year ago, they played their first San Diego show in our living room, and now their new record, Summer of Hate, is out on Fat Possum. Last night we went to the Casbah to watch Spectrum (Sonic Boom from Spacemen 3's band), and Crocs supported. They were the best I've ever seen them, fresh off the Ladytron/Faint tour. If you like Jesus and Mary Chain, Spacemen 3 or Suicide, this band is for you. They'll be back on the road in a week doing a US tour with Holy Fuck, so check out the dates and make sure to catch them.

Divinity

Sure, this is primarily a fashion blog, but music and fashion go hand in hand (duh!) And if there is anyone who embodies glamour, it would be Divine. Harris Glenn Milstead was born and raised in a suburb of Baltimore, and was a childhood friend of legendary auteur (and my personal favorite) John Waters. He starred in numerous Waters films, and became known as the (drag)queen of camp.

Today, I literally stumbled across these amazing music videos that Divine made. I haven't thought about Divine in months, or maybe years! Nothing like fabulously ridiculous vids to reignite my passion for her. They're perfect to listen to when you need an energy boost or when you're getting ready to go out. Maybe I'm crazy, but I am definitely inspired by Divine's hotness. (And yes, they all have the same beat.)

The Vaselines covered this next jam, "You Think You're A Man"!

Last is my personal favorite... I even bought the 12" single for this one! Love it!

L'Enfant Assassin Des Mouches

Well, school is back in session pour moi, which means two nights a week of French. While my classmates are horrifically style-impaired (excepting my dear friend Cassie), a fabulous fashion discovery did come from something we discussed en cours.

For some reason, we were asked to identify famous Frenchmen/women, and the ever sexy Serge Gainsbourg was on the worksheet. Somehow, I was the only student who knew his work... When I asserted just how handsome I find him to be, le Prof decided to start watching videos of Serge on YouTube. Inspired, I ran home to do more "research" and looked up Serge's musical arranger, Jean-Claude Vannier. I have his record, "L'Enfant Assassin Des Mouches" (The Child Killer of the Flies) and love it. In this video, Vannier's band, Insolitudes, is playing a song from the record, live, for an Yves Saint-Laurent fashion show on the Roland Petit Show. It's like a precursor to Fashion Rocks.

It's Been Forgotten

I was just going through old posts and cleaning up the old drafts and shit and what do I find?

An awesome post Rachel didn't publish. Why not, little R? The Coven seriously rules my life!
